Boys tend to Experience more Bullying than Girls as they Progress in School?
Bullying is already a serious and widespread problem in all schools across America. Forms of bullying such as name-calling, use of homophobic epithet and actual battery occur from grade school, high school and colleges. Bullying has a significant impact to child’s growth and development, and can cause negative life-changing happenings that can persist until adulthood. In addition, vulnerable persons like homosexuals and racial minority that experience heavy bullying may result to suicide or homicide.
The recent study, which is conducted by researchers from Boston College, shows that male adolescents belonging to minority group actually experience more bullying as they progress through high school. In addition, boys who are victimized by bullying tend to use more homophobic epithets as well as being called by it.
In regards to girls, incidences of bullying among them decreased as they progress.
Though bullying is clearly an aggressive behavior, little effort is being done to control them in majority of schools. Until recently, it is not studied and even recognized. Only when bullying is linked to killings like Columbine High School massacre did experts urged exploration and research into it. Though there are laws against bullying, it is only fully implemented in few states.
