People who regularly ate commercial baked goods such as fairy cakes, croissants, doughnuts and bagels, and fast food are more likely to develop depression compared to those who eat little or none. It is also observed that the more people consume such foodstuff, the greater their risk for depression. The study is made by researchers from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and University of Granada.

A study shows that obesity is ‘dangerously linked’ to mental illness, according to researchers from University of Toronto and Women’s College Hospital in Toronto, Canada. They detailed that obesity can be triggered by mental illness and vice versa, and it can be complicated by mix of neurobiological, psychological and socioeconomic factors. It is to note that both conditions are very stigmatizing, and having both conditions place a great burden on the patient.

A study among American girls indicates that mental depression and binge-eating behavior can be linked. The conclusions stems from a study of almost 5,000 adolescent girls (aged 12-18) who were surveyed in 1999, 2001 and 2003. The study only focused on girls, as they are more prone to depression and eating disorders than boys. Results yielded that in the initial study, those teens who described themselves as “depressed” are two times more likely to binge for the next two years compared to other girls.
