On Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that a approved generic versions of quetiapine, known in brand name Seroquel, will be soon available in pharmacies. Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic used for cases of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It is also used as add-on drug for depression.

A large study shows that almost 40% of people suffering from schizophrenia are using prescribed antidepressants, despite lack of strong evidence supporting their effectiveness. The study is made by researchers based in University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, USA.

A new study conducted by researchers from University Hospital of Psychiatry in Zurich, Switzerland suggests that smoking tobacco may increase risk of developing schizophrenia, and the impact is stronger the more a person smokes.
